Popular Adobe Products Targeted By Hackers

Le me guess, you probably have Adobe reader installed on your computer. And probably flash player too? If so you should take care to not join the 80% of users online who have, according to Trusteer, not upgraded their software and are thus vulnerable to hacker attacks. Nothing could disrupt your online buisness efforts quite like having your computer hijacked by unscrupulous hackers – update your software today.

Here’s the full story from Webpronews:

Two weeks ago, Adobe released a critical patch for Flash Player and Acrobat Reader. That 80% figure is based on Trusteer’s installed base of over 2.5 million online banking users of the company’s security service.

“The penetration of Adobe Flash and Acrobat is unparalleled,” a spokesperson for Trusteer tells WebProNews.

So so many people on the web are running Flash, and Adobe released the patch two weeks ago, why are so many still vulnerable? Trusteer thinks Adobe just has issues with distributing patches.

“Adobe is facing some major security challenges and one of its biggest hurdles is its software update mechanism.

Accoreding to Trusteer, targeting products like Flash and Acrobat is attractive to wrongdoers because they reach such a huge portion of Internet users. Browser use is much more diversified with Internet Explorer reaching about 65% of users and Firefox reaching 30%. Targeting Adobe’s products just covers a lot more people.

When it comes to mass communication in the digital world Adobes products are a universally used tool, so I guess it is not changed that digital wrongdoers see it as i great target to attack I suspect calling it “the biggest security hole on the web” isn’t far from the truth. Still, it is both scary and saddening to read about counterproductive behavior on this scale.

It is quite expected for a large company like Adobe to be able to handle this kind of attacks. It’s quite a disturbing issue. Majority of the public sees it as Adobe’s responsibility to provide its consumers an efficient way to update their software.
