Daniel Craig is Great as James Bond!

As I, in my earlier post about a black James Bond, said that some people think the latest Bond movies where almost a bit too pretentios, I would like to go on record and say that I actually do not agree with that notion. I saw the newest Bond movie, A Quantum of Solace, during the weekend and I thought is was rather good.

Some people have hinted that this movie somehow is “too sad” to be a Bond movie, but I don’t feel that is the case. Certainly Bond’s character is going through rough times in the two latest installments of the series, but saying that Bond takes whatever the circumbstances throw at him “like a man” is almost an understatement.

True, gone is the Bond à la Connery and Moore – walking about calling every woman “darling” and regularly slapping them on the tush – but Daniel Craig certainly couldn’t be considered any less masculine by anyone’s standards. In fact, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Craig’s incarnation of Bond in fact is a lot more appealing to real women (in the audience) than his predecessors. I also think Craig is probably the best actor to ever have played Bond – he manages to transmit a lot of the emotions of what the character is experiencing through his eyes.

Finally, I thought the action sequences where shot in a very interesting and effective manner. It really felt like you where there yourself, in the midst of the action – in the car speeding down a narrow road, falling down a building scaffold while fighting a bad guy etc.

All in all, Quantum Solace is a movie I highly recommend that you go see. It is the new, contemporary Bond that definitely still retains the most important attributes of this classical movie character.
